The New York Giants Celebrate the Fritzky Family
What an extraordinary evening, November 10th of last year was for Rich, Maggie, and the children. Some 550 people attended a Benefit Dinner at the Rothman Center. Hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University, the New York Giants, and New York Giants alumni, 18 veterans of Giants Super Bowl teams attended, including current stalwarts like running back, Brandon Jacobs and linebacker, Chase Blackburn. Attendees walked into an Arena draped in Giants red and blue. They saw magnificent ice sculptures of the Lombardi Trophy and Super Bowl highlights on big screens. They were presented with color prints of every player attending and team photos and reprints of an article that Rich himself wrote about George Martin 22 years earlier. Michael Adams, president of the University, kindly welcomed everyone and George Martin, the great Giants Captain who led the 87’ champions, served as Master of Ceremonies. He was well accompanied by his good friend, Perry Williams, cornerback on both the 87’ and 90’ teams. Perry introduced all of the players and both Brandon Jacobs and Harry Carson spoke. Each also auctioned off autographed jerseys. The lines for autographs were long, but each player stayed until every attendee was satisfied. Other supporters included storied running backs like Joe Morris and Super Bowl MVP, O.J. Anderson and classic wide-outs like Steve Baker and Odessa Turner. There was Billy Ard and Jim Burt and Roman Oben and Brad Benson and Keith Hamilton and Curtis McGriff and Zeke Mowatt and Howard Cross and Lee Rouson. Simply put, it was an unprecedented and historic event that will, with the continued generosity of a remarkable benefactor from Boston, secure the Friends of Rich Fritzky Trust, at its present level of support, for another year. It was a tremendous success. Rich Fritzky’s impassioned remarks will soon be available here on video. He focused upon the profound goodness that has embraced him and his family ever since the disease struck. Ken Vehrkens, Dean of the Petrocelli College at Fairleigh Dickinson University and George Martin, Giants great, later announced that this is to become an annual event. |
